Ghost of Yōtei

Ghost of Yōtei Review
Ghost of Yōtei Review
Ghost of Yōtei is a beautiful game. That is probably the easiest thing for me to say about it. The problem is that after playing Ghost of Tsushima, I found too much of the experience familiar. For me, the question was not whether Ghost of Yōtei looked good. It absolutely does. The question was whether it gave me enough that felt new.
My Take
The graphics are amazing. But graphics alone could not make the experience interesting enough for me. Having already played Ghost of Tsushima, I found the campaign almost too similar in overall feel. Instead of feeling like a major new experience, it often felt familiar. That familiarity is the main reason I landed at 3.5/5.
The Campaign
The campaign is where my biggest reservation comes from. I wanted something that felt more distinct after the first game. Instead, I found myself repeatedly comparing the experience with Ghost of Tsushima. If you have not played the earlier game, your reaction may be different. For me, having that comparison in mind made the lack of novelty much more noticeable.
Visuals
The visuals are unquestionably one of the game’s strongest aspects from my experience. It looks fantastic. But this is also where my overall criticism becomes clearer: beautiful presentation cannot completely compensate for an experience that did not feel sufficiently fresh to me.
Who Should Play It?
If you loved Ghost of Tsushima and want more of that style, Ghost of Yōtei may still appeal to you. If you played the first game recently and are looking for something substantially different, my experience suggests going in with more modest expectations.
Content & Parental Guidance
This is a mature action game containing substantial combat, violence and blood, alongside mature themes and language.
Verdict
3.5/5 — Beautiful, but too familiar for me. Ghost of Yōtei looks amazing, but after playing Ghost of Tsushima, I found the campaign too similar and not interesting enough to feel like a meaningful step forward. Read more: How We Review at Nilaanjan.stream
