What to Watch After Neagley: 10 Action, Crime & Mystery Series to Watch Next

Part of Reacher Universe

Finished Neagley? Here are 10 action, crime, mystery and espionage series worth considering next, depending on what you enjoyed about the Reacher spin-off.

What to Watch After Neagley: 10 Action, Crime & Mystery Series to Watch Next

Finished Neagley and wondering what to watch next? That is a slightly different question from simply asking what to watch after Reacher. Neagley has the action and military background you would expect from the Reacher universe, but it also puts considerable emphasis on investigation, personal history and the people around Frances Neagley.

The result is a show that sits somewhere between an action thriller, a crime investigation and a conspiracy story. So if you enjoyed Neagley, you may be looking for some combination of capable investigators, military experience, dangerous conspiracies, crime and a protagonist who is willing to keep digging when everyone else would rather stop.

Here are ten series that take different pieces of that formula.

1. Reacher

Why watch it after Neagley: You want to go back to the world you just left. The obvious answer is sometimes the correct one. Reacher is the parent series, and Frances Neagley has been one of Jack Reacher’s closest allies. If what you enjoyed most about Neagley was the military-investigator combination, the connection between the two shows is impossible to ignore.

The difference is that Reacher is much more deliberately built around its central character. Jack tends to move from place to place, becoming involved in cases that initially look smaller than they really are. If you somehow arrived at Neagley without watching all of Reacher, this is the most direct place to go next.

Best for: More of the same universe, action, investigation and Jack Reacher. Read next: Reacher Season 4 Review

2. Bosch

Why watch it after Neagley: You want the investigation to matter as much as the action. Bosch is a very different kind of show. Harry Bosch is a homicide detective rather than a private investigator operating in the Reacher universe, and the storytelling is generally more grounded and procedural.

But there is an important similarity. Bosch is the kind of investigator who does not like convenient answers. If something does not make sense, he keeps digging. That makes Bosch an interesting follow-up for anyone who liked the investigative side of Neagley rather than simply the action. Best for: Detective work, investigations and grounded crime drama.

3. Ballard

Why watch it after Neagley: You want another female-led investigator. Ballard follows LAPD detective Renée Ballard as she takes on cold cases and investigations that have not received the attention they deserve. It is also part of the wider Bosch universe. That makes it an interesting companion to Neagley: both put a capable woman at the centre of an investigation while allowing professional instincts to drive the story.

Best for: Female-led crime investigation and police procedural storytelling.

4. Jack Ryan

Why watch it after Neagley: You want military experience mixed with a much larger conspiracy. Jack Ryan takes the scale up considerably. Instead of a local investigation, the story moves into international intelligence, terrorism and geopolitical threats. Jack Ryan is not Reacher or Neagley, but the combination of investigation, military knowledge and escalating danger makes the series a natural transition for viewers who enjoyed that side of Neagley.

Best for: International conspiracies, espionage and military action.

5. The Terminal List: Dark Wolf

Why watch it after Neagley: You want the military side pushed much further. This is a strong choice if the military background was your favourite part of Neagley. The Terminal List: Dark Wolf follows Ben Edwards before the events of The Terminal List, moving into covert missions, espionage and special operations.

It is considerably darker than Neagley, though. So go into it expecting a more intense military thriller rather than a direct copy of the Reacher formula. Best for: Military operations, espionage and darker action.

6. Tracker

Why watch it after Neagley: You like independent investigators who follow difficult cases. Tracker takes the lone-investigator idea in another direction. Colter Shaw travels around the United States helping people locate missing persons and solve difficult cases. There is less military action here, but the basic appeal is familiar: an unusually capable person arrives, studies the problem and refuses to let it go.

If the investigative side of Neagley appealed to you more than the franchise connection, Tracker is worth considering. Best for: Investigations, missing-person cases and a travelling protagonist.

7. Slow Horses

Why watch it after Neagley: You want espionage with more character and less conventional action. This is the wildcard recommendation. Slow Horses does not look much like Neagley on the surface. Its protagonists are a group of disgraced MI5 agents working out of Slough House under Jackson Lamb.

But underneath the different tone is the same fundamental idea: people who are very good at what they do get pulled into situations that are considerably more dangerous than they initially appear. The difference is that Slow Horses puts much more emphasis on character, dialogue, institutional politics and espionage.

Best for: Espionage, conspiracies, character-driven suspense and dark humour.

8. The Day of the Jackal

Why watch it after Neagley: You want the investigation and cat-and-mouse tension without needing a military hero. This is another deliberate change of pace. The Day of the Jackal follows a professional assassin and the intelligence officer determined to catch him. It is more of a cat-and-mouse thriller than an action-investigation series.

The protagonist is not solving a conventional crime, and the story operates on an international scale. But if what you enjoyed about Neagley was watching capable people gradually uncover a dangerous conspiracy, there is plenty here to keep you interested. Best for: Espionage, assassins and intelligent cat-and-mouse suspense.

9. Tehran

Why watch it after Neagley: You want a serious espionage thriller. Tehran moves even further away from conventional action. The series is built around intelligence operations, surveillance, danger and the consequences of operating inside hostile territory. The appeal is less about having an unstoppable protagonist and more about watching an operation become increasingly difficult to control.

I have already reviewed Tehran here on Nilaanjan.stream, and it is one of the series I have enjoyed most. Best for: Espionage, tension and international intrigue. Read next: Tehran Review

10. The Terminal List

Why watch it after Neagley: You want a darker military revenge thriller. If Dark Wolf sounds interesting but you would rather start with the main story, The Terminal List is the place to begin. The series follows Navy SEAL commander James Reece after a covert mission goes catastrophically wrong. What begins as an attempt to understand what happened becomes a much darker investigation.

The tone is significantly heavier than Neagley, and the series is much more focused on revenge, military conspiracy and the consequences of betrayal. But the central attraction is familiar: a highly capable military character trying to uncover the truth while facing people who have powerful reasons for keeping it hidden.

Best for: Military thrillers, conspiracies and revenge-driven action.

So, what should you watch after Neagley?

That depends on what you liked about it.

If you want to stay in the Reacher universe

Watch Reacher. It is the most direct continuation of the world and characters you have just been watching.

If you want another female-led investigator

Try Ballard. The tone is different, but the investigative focus makes it a natural companion.

If you want more military action

Go with The Terminal List: Dark Wolf or The Terminal List. Both take the military-thriller element much further.

If you want crime investigation

Try Bosch or Tracker. They are less dependent on military backgrounds and more interested in solving cases.

If you want espionage

Go for Jack Ryan, Slow Horses or Tehran. They approach espionage from very different angles, so the choice depends on whether you want action, character or tension.

If you want a completely different thriller

Try The Day of the Jackal. It replaces the lone investigator with a cat-and-mouse battle between an assassin and the intelligence officer hunting him.

The Nilaanjan Take

What makes Neagley interesting is that it does not need to be exactly Reacher. Frances Neagley has her own personality, her own history and her own way of approaching a problem. That means the best follow-up is not necessarily the show with the biggest explosions or the toughest protagonist. Think about the part of Neagley that worked for you.

If it was the investigation, go toward Bosch or Tracker. If it was the military background, try Dark Wolf or The Terminal List. If it was the conspiracy, Jack Ryan is a natural move. If it was the intelligence and suspense, Slow Horses or Tehran should be on your list. And if what you really want is simply more Reacher, there is nothing wrong with going straight back to the original.

Sometimes the best next watch is the one that reminds you why you enjoyed the last one.
