Arsalan, Kolkata
My review of Arsalan in Kolkata — a famous biryani destination that, for me, now feels more average than exceptional.

Arsalan, Kolkata Review
My Take
Arsalan is another Kolkata name that comes with a reputation of its own, particularly around biryani and Mughlai food. My experience, however, was much more restrained than the hype suggests. The food was average for me and didn’t create the kind of reaction I would expect from one of the city’s most talked-about names. That doesn’t mean there isn’t good food here; there clearly is a loyal audience and many diners continue to enjoy it. It simply didn’t work that way for me.
Like Peter Cat, Arsalan is interesting because the reputation and the current experience don’t necessarily land in the same place. I can understand why someone visiting Kolkata would want to try it. I just wouldn’t personally describe it as a must-visit based on my experience.
What Stood Out
A famous Kolkata name that didn’t quite live up to the reputation for me.
Who Should Go
Biryani and Mughlai food lovers who want to experience one of Kolkata’s best-known names and make up their own minds.
Verdict
3/5 — Average in my experience. Worth trying once if the reputation intrigues you, but not a personal favourite.
